Volunteering for Health camp

A health camp is an organized event that aims to provide medical check-ups, consultations, and treatments to a specific community or population. The purpose of a health camp is to promote health awareness, prevent diseases, and provide medical assistance to individuals who may not have easy access to healthcare facilities.

A free health camp was organized by CII Yi for pourkarmikas and slum dwellers of frazer town  on 11th March 2023 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm  at Telugu Church.

A team of a doctors and nurses  were present to provide health services like medical check-ups, consultations, and treatments and advice.

The purpose of the health camp was to promote health awareness, prevent diseases, and provide medical assistance to Pourakarmikas and slum dwellers who may not have easy access to healthcare facilities.

The objectives of the healthcamp were:

  1. To provide medical check-ups and consultations to individuals.
  2. To screen individuals for specific diseases or health conditions.
  3. To provide basic treatments for minor illnesses or injuries.
  4. To provide health education and awareness to individuals.

Physical examination of blood sugar level, blood pressure, pulse rate and GRBS were taken and they were sent with the test report for consultation from the doctors.

We had great opportunity to be a part of the event and we learnt so many things like team work , organizational skills , communication skills and problem solving skills.

13 Young Indians (Yi students)  of I semester MBA from Adarsh Institute of Management and IT volunteered to support the camp. The student volunteers were involved in setting up the campsite, which includes arranging the medical equipment and supplies, crowd management, registering the individuals who will receive the medical services, recording the vital parameters, helping with advice provided by the doctors, disbursing fruits and refreshments to the beneficiaries and collecting feedback from them.

The community engagement activity of volunteering at the health camp helped in sensitizing the students towards health issues faced by the Purakarmikas and slumdwellers due to the nature of their work and  hygiene factors in their living environment.Further more, the students got an experiential learning of team work , Organisational skills ,Communication skills, Ability to keep calm under pressure and Problem-solving skills.

We thank our professor, Dr.Uma Devi Ananth Ma’am , our Principal and Director Dr.Venkataraman R, and Ms.Poojitha  and Ms.Krupa from CII Yi for providing the opportunity.
